Community Success Story

A Message from the Director

Dear Friends and Partners,

As we begin a new year, I want to pause to reflect on what we have accomplished together and to share our continued commitment to housing as a foundation for dignity, stability, and opportunity.

The past year reminded us-again-that affordable housing is not simply about buildings. It is about people. It is about families finding stability, seniors aging with dignity, workers remaining rooted in the communities they serve, and children having a safe place to call home. Despite rising costs, limited resources, and persistent inequities, your partnership made a meaningful difference.

Because of your support, we advanced our mission to expand access to safe, affordable housing and to advocate for policies that put people first. We strengthened community partnerships, deepened resident engagement, and continued to center equity and respect in all that we do. These achievements belong to all of us.

As we look ahead, the need remains urgent. Housing affordability continues to challenge individuals and families across our region. In the coming year, we will focus on preserving existing affordable homes, developing new housing opportunities, and amplifying the voices of those most impacted by the housing crisis. We will do this with transparency, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to our values.

Thank you for standing with us. Your trust, advocacy, and generosity fuel this work and remind us that lasting change is possible when we lead together.

On behalf of our board, staff, and the communities we serve, I wish you a hopeful and healthy new year. We look forward to continuing this work alongside you.

Remember "We are planting seeds to trees we will never see the shade of."

With gratitude and resolve,
Teresa Pope
Executive Director

Community Success Story

Public Housing to Homeownership
Judy Sell & Tommy Delvin Jr.

Join NSBHA in congratulating Judith Sell and her son, Thomas Delvin Jr., for moving from Public Housing into Homeownership!

Judy and her son Tommy have been participants in NSBHA's public housing program since 2016. During their time as our residents, they worked diligently to increase their incomes and credit scores, working closely with Southeast Volusia Habitat for Humanity in their Homeownership Program.

With SEV Habitat for Humanity, Judy and Tommy learned about the responsibilities of homeownership while simultaneously putting in hours of "sweat equity". They worked hard in the Habitat for Humanity Restore and doing construction for their new home.

Judy and Tommy moved into their beautiful new home in 2025 just in time for the holidays. Everybody at NSBHA is exceptionally proud of Judy and Tommy and what they have accomplished.

Judy has this to say to the current residents of NSBHA: "All I can tell people in housing is save your money and use your community resources. There is plenty of excellent programs like SEVHFH. These people are all sweet people and very easy to work with, very understanding, and also do a lot for the community."

If you are currently a NSBHA resident and you are interested in homeownership, consider reaching out to Southeast Volusia Habitat for Humanity to learn when their next homeownership program will begin. If you are an FSS resident, please visit your FSS coordinator to talk about potential homeownership programs and courses that may be available to you.

Congratulations on your new home, Judy and Tommy!
